Minibuses leave UCA every 20 minutes, cost C$70–80 and take an hour and a half. The local bus from Israel Lewites is cheaper, C$55–65, but takes over two hours.
From Chinandega there are minibuses every 15 minutes and the ride takes 45. From Estelí an express leaves for León five times a day from COTRAN Sur, and from Matagalpa four times. To go back to Estelí there are local buses from León’s La Terminal until 4:00 PM.
Buses from other cities arrive at La Terminal, north-east of the centre. From there to the centre and the faculties take a taxi or a city bus: ask the fare before getting in. Beach buses do not leave from La Terminal but from the Subtiava market, to the west.
According to our timetables, the last minibus from León to Managua leaves at 7:00 PM and the last from Managua to León at 8:00 PM. Minibuses to Chinandega run until 7:30 PM. Sunday afternoons get busy: arrive early.
Approximate cost
Managua–León C$70–80 by minibus or C$55–65 by local bus. Chinandega–León C$35–40. Estelí–León C$90–110.

Augusto C. Sandino airport sits on the Carretera Norte, 15–25 minutes by taxi from the bus terminals. There are no tourist buses from the airport itself: the trick is a short taxi to the right terminal and the bus from there.

The entrance to Masaya Volcano National Park is at km 23 of the Managua–Masaya highway: any bus between the two cities drops you there. Inside the park you go up by vehicle.

León is 1 h 30 by minibus from UCA. The beaches of Poneloya and Las Peñitas are 30 minutes further on a bus that leaves from the Subtiava market.
